CCS CookbooksThe idea for the first Cookbook was proposed in early 1972. By November the cookbook, Favorite Recipes, had been printed and by January 1973 it was already making a profit. It was a collection of favorite recipes of the members. In 1978 the Collage of Cooks cookbook, a collection of menus, was printed under the direction of Elaine Raeburn, the chairman. To initiate the sales of this cookbook, a Cookbook Patron Party was held at Liberty Commons in the Valley, hosted by Christ Child Members and Kitchen Works, Ltd., of Quaker Square and Liberty Commons. This was a social event and cost $30.00 per couple. Temptations, published in early 1984, was an hors d'oeuvres cookbook and Joyce May was the chairman. This cookbook was printed using our own mimeograph machine and assembled by members. Sales went well and by April 1984 the third printing was done. In 1989 Diana Lucia proposed another cookbook project, a menu cookbook, with each page sponsored by either a member, a corporation, or a celebrity. By the Fall of 1989 recipes had arrived from some of the celebrities and work continued on testing the menus for this cookbook. By April 1990 this cookbook, Savor the Flavors, was ready to go to the printer and 2,500 copies were ordered. In June, 1990 there was a Patron Party for this cookbook held at the Heisman Lodge near the Rubber Bowl at $15.00 per person. By November 1990 there was a profit reported of $12,000 and a second printing was ordered. Profits eventually went over $20,000. In March of 2006, to celebrate our 50th Anniversary Year, Diana Lucia proposed our fifth cookbook , Fifty Years and Still Cookin'. Members were surveyed regarding their favorite recipes from the past four cookbooks. Their favorites were then reprinted along with some additional updated recipes. This cookbook went to print in June 2006 and sales began in July 2006. |
