Golf Classic

Since 1990 our members have volunteered to staff the concession tents at the golf tournaments at the Firestone Country Club. In 1990 Marcia Sunkin accepted the chairmanship of this activity and recruited volunteers to work at two food stands at the World Series of Golf Tournament at the Firestone Country Club. The members donated 387 hours of work and the profit realized from that first year was $1,468. The following year our volunteers manned three stands and made $3,200.

Since then our members, their families, and friends have volunteered to work at the golf tournaments during all the days of the tournament, and the profits have increased to around $6,000 each year. From 1990 - 1999 the tournament was called the World Series of Golf and was held in August. From 2000 - 2005 it was called the NEC Golf Tournament except in 2002 when the tournament was replaced by the PGA Seniors Golf Tournament which was held in June. In 2006 it became the Bridgestone-Firestone Golf Classic.
