Ronald McDonald House and Meals

The idea of a Ronald McDonald House was brought to Akron in 1980 by members of our Christ Child Society following the National CCS Convention that year. The Detroit Chapter had shared their involvement with this project in their city. The proposal to have a Ronald McDonald House in Akron was made to Children's Hospital, was accepted, and by 1983 ground was broken for the facility which officially opened in January 1985.

Our chapter made a $10,000 pledge to the initial building fund and completed the payments in 1986. Volunteers from our chapter have worked at the house since the building opened. Elaine Raeburn was instrumental in developing this project as well as working as the Volunteer Coordinator at the House itself. Since 1993 our chapter has also been providing meals four times a year for the families staying in the facility. In 1994 Mary Yanko was named as a trustee of the Ronald McDonald House. The current chairman of this committee is Loretta Fieldman and Donna Grigas coordinates the meal deliveries.
