Gourmet Group
In June 1985 Diana Lucia proposed the idea of a small fund raiser that would be a social activity for members, as well as for their spouses. Groups of four couples would meet 3 - 4 times a year for a gourmet dinner with a host couple planning the menu around a chosen theme and each of the other couples contributing to the meal. Couples rotate with other couples during the year to socialize and enjoy a pleasant meal. At the end of each year a summer dinner or picnic is planned which includes all of the couples.
This activity began in the fall of 1985 with 20 couples and the first dinners were reported in the November 6, 1985 Board minutes. The grand finale for the first year was a Texas Barbeque dinner on July 12, 1986. Since that time the Gourmet Group has numbered up to 36 couples and many thematic dinners have been served. Annual picnics have been held, also with interesting themes, at such locations as members' homes, the Hower House, on the Portage Princess cruise, and at Mingo Shelter in Sand Run Park. The current chairman is Kate Naglak.
