Hospitality
When the Christ Child Society began in Akron in 1957 the meetings were held in the homes of members. Each member acted as the hostess for that meeting. In 1959 as the group began to increase its membership, the new members were asked to serve as co-hostesses instead of having a meeting at their own homes. These hostesses helped provide the desserts and served the refreshments at the conclusion of the meetings.
In 1962 when the meetings were moved away from homes and to St. Sebastian School, hostesses signed up by the month to provide the refreshments. This process continued until 1972 when a chairman, Diane Demko, was appointed to head the Hostess Committee. From that time on members have served on the Hostess Committee and provided the beverages at the meetings and coordinated the dessert donations from the membership. In 2001 this committee was renamed the Hospitality Committee and continues to plan and arrange the refreshments, usually with a seasonal or monthly theme, at each meeting.
