Please use the donate tab or mail your donation to PO Box 5855 Akron, Ohio 44372 Donations may be made online through PayPal or by credit card. Many thanks for your generosity. Help us by sponsoring a Clothe-A-Child collection For 53 years, the Christ Child Society of Akron has provided clothing and services to area children in need. Please join us and help clothe our area babies and children. The Children’s Clothing Center is presently our largest project. We are the primary suppliers of uniforms to children in need in the Akron Public Schools. Last year, we provided new uniforms, coats, hats, mittens and underwear to 1,816 area children. You can help children in need: - Organize a “Clothe-A-Child” collection—we always have a need for socks, underwear, t shirts, diapers. One organization held a successful “Knock Your Socks Off” sock and underwear collection. We clothe babies and children in grades K-12.
- Organize a “Clothe-A-Child” dress down day or sell paper “Clothe-A-Child”dolls to display.
- Organize a baby shower. If you belong to a church or religious organization, you could sponsor a “Birthday Party for Jesus”. One church did this at their children’s Christmas Eve service. The children brought baby items, clothing and diapers as gifts.
- Have a diaper drive and collect diapers and baby wipes.
- Collect toiletries for our Friendship Bags program-deodorant, baby and regular shampoo, soap, combs and brushes
- Or perhaps you have another inspiration for a clothing collection. Ex. “Mitten tree”
- Volunteer to pack at the Clothing Center. We can schedule a time for your group to pack clothing orders and layettes. We need the most help in the fall as we get uniforms and coats to school children. We have about 200 orders a week in Aug., Sept., and Oct.
Because of the generosity of the community and area foundations, we have been able to help many area children in need. We hope that you will partner with us this year. Listed below are the services that the Christ Child Society of Akron provided last year: - 1,816 children received new clothing, including uniform pants, shirts, sweaters, coats, hats, gloves, socks, and underwear. Started in 1970, the Clothing Center has grown to become our major service project. The Akron Public Schools presented us a Volunteer Recognition Award and a commendation from Summit County Council for our service.
- 314 newborns received layettes, which included infant clothing, socks, diapers, bottles, wipes, blankets and more. We have worked with the hospitals and area agencies since 1957, providing these wonderful gifts for babies.
- 700 Friendship Bags, with toiletries, were distributed to children who had to be removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect, enabling them to pack their clothing and belongings. This is the eighth year that we have supported Summit County Children Services Board, providing the bags to help these children in crisis.
- 35 Infant Bereavement Kits were delivered to the hospitals to be distributed to families who lost a new baby.
As an all-volunteer organization, we are able to use your entire donation to help children in need. We continue to fundraise, look for bargains and find ways to cut costs. We thank those of you who have helped us in the past and hope you will continue to support us. We could not have served as many children without community and foundation support. We continue to work with area schools, hospitals and local service agencies. We look to partner with other organizations that work to end the cycle of poverty that causes so many problems for our area children.
